VIPER Clinical Information Solution 3.0 Earns ONC-HIT Certification from Drummond Group

April 10 2015

March 12, 2015 – Spectrum Medical’s VIPER Clinical Information Solution 3.0 has achieved Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC-HIT) 2014 Edition Modular Certification via Drummond Group, an Authorized Certification Body (ACB) that has been empowered to test software for compliance with the requirements of the federal government’s program. The stamp of approval designates that the software offers the functionality that enables eligible providers and hospitals to meet Stage 1 and Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements, qualifying these organizations to receive payments under the ongoing EHR adoption program.

“Anesthesia and Perfusion documentation remains one of the last specialties in the hospital to continue to document on paper. According to HIMSS Analytics, over 70% of hospitals in the U.S. remain on paper in this critical area of the hospital” says Kevin Ledet, Spectrum Medical’s Vice President of Clinical Information Solutions. “With unparalleled clinician acceptance and adoption, the VIPER solution has provided a much needed tool to increase workflow efficiency and patient safety in this demanding environment. ONC modular certification of VIPER is another important milestone for this game changing technology.”

To earn the certification, VIPER Clinical Information Solution 3.0 was tested to be in accordance with applicable standards and certification criteria put forth by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The government’s program is maturing and, therefore, becoming more demanding, as it is positioning itself to enable healthcare providers to truly transform how care is delivered. As a result, software developers are being challenged to develop systems with advanced patient engagement, data transfer and interoperability functionality,” says Rick Drummond, CEO, Drummond Group Inc. “Our experience testing complex software in a variety of industries makes it possible for us to bring the sophisticated testing and certification services that the healthcare industry now needs to reach these ambitious goals.”

“This EHR Module is 2014 Edition compliant and has been certified by an ONC-ACB in accordance with the applicable certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This certification does not represent an endorsement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.”

VIPER Clinical information Solution 3.0 has completed EHR Inpatient Modular Certification for the following criteria:

  • 170.314 (a) (3, 4, 11-13); (d) (1, 5); (g) (1,4)

No Clinical Quality Measures were tested and no additional software was used for certification.

Viper Clinical Information Solution 3.0 holds certificate number 02262015-3106-6 certified on 02/26/2015 using the 2014 edition standards.

VIPER software 3.0 may require ongoing yearly costs to support upgrades and general maintenance. In addition, the software may require one-time costs to establish interfaces for reporting to various state or procedure specific registries, billing companies and/or other 3rd party Business Intelligence software.

*A certification that is issued to an integrated bundle of EHR Modules shall be treated the same as a certification issued to a Complete EHR except that it must also indicate each EHR Module that comprises the bundle;

*A certification issued to a Complete EHR or EHR Module based on applicable certification criteria adopted by the ONC at subpart C of this part must be separate and distinct from any other certification(s) based on other criteria or requirements.
